The Person
John Kapaun is a 53-year-old engineer from Burnsville, Minnesota, just south of Minneapolis and St. Paul, MN, who is deeply loved by his family, including his daughter Ally and son Jacob. Known as a highly intelligent and incredibly resourceful man, John has a great passion for music and a profound love for the outdoors. He is a routine-oriented person who frequently enjoys taking long daily walks through the wooded areas of local parks including Terrace Oaks West Park and Black Dog Park.
The Case
On the afternoon of Tuesday, May 26, 2026, John left his residence in Burnsville on foot for his routine daily walk, leaving behind both his cell phone and his vehicle. He was last spotted by an employee outside on County Road 11 past Big Discount Liquor. Because John has Type 1 diabetes and left without his life-sustaining medication, his family strongly fears that he may have suffered a severe medical episode and could be in a diabetic coma. Extensive search efforts coordinated by the non-profit organization, United Legacy have deployed organized searches of the area. The Burnsville Police Department continues to investigate leads, and his family has launched the “John Kapaun Search Party” volunteer network to keep his face in the public eye and bring him home safely.

Please take a look at the map above. If you live in this area or your business is in that area, if you have a ring doorbell or any other security footage, please take a look at what you have for the afternoon and evening of May 26, 2026. See if you see anyone who looks like it could be John Kapaun. It could be the key to finding him.
My Thoughts:
Jodi Leider, a volunteer for United Legacy, reached out to me after seeing the Facebook post I made for Trenton Massey. She told me a little bit about the case and at first I was hesitant, because there were other drawings that I had planned on getting done. However, I quickly decided that this was more important. More shares, likes and comments on posts pertaining to this case could make a difference in finding more witnesses to help bring him home.
The community support for this search has been huge, but John has still not been found as of today 6/30/26. John’s daughter, Ally and Jacob have been relentless in their search. I was able to get in contact with Ally recently and sent the drawing to her via her godmother. When I asked her what John is like, she responded with some videos that she had taken of him. I immediately started tearing up. He could be anyone’s dad. In one video, he’s playing guitar. In another video he was photobombing Ally in front of a mirror and just being goofy. He loves fishing and making people laugh. Above all he is a devoted father. In Ally’s words, she and Jacob are his whole world. He needs to be found.
