A sophomore at Riverside High School in Milwaukee at the time of her disappearance, Joniah has a deep love for her family and a resilient spirit. She is a “shining star” who was known for her creativity and close bond with her siblings.
The Case
Joniah was last seen on June 23, 2022, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Surveillance footage captured the 15-year-old walking near East Reservoir Avenue and North Buffum Street, carrying a large camping backpack. She was supposed to meet her father that afternoon to get a work permit, but she never arrived. Her case has highlighted the urgent need for resources and attention regarding missing Black girls and women. Her family continues to advocate for justice and for “Joniah’s Law,” a proposed legislative effort to improve the response to missing person reports involving minors.
