Trenton Massey

Trenton Massey

The Person
Trenton Massey was a 21-year-old junior at Northern Michigan University (NMU), where he had been studying Construction Management. Trenton is known by those close to him as a dedicated student and a valued member of the NMU community. Trenton fell in love with Marquette, the students, the people, and making many memories with friends and family hiking and exploring the Michigan landscape. He was the kind of brother who would greet his sister with flowers in hand after a dance recital. He was a volunteer with the youth football program and through 4H. He loved his family more than anything and was deeply loved by the people of his hometown in Corunna, Michigan. To his Mom, he was her world, her everything, her best friend, her rock, her heart. To his Dad, he was becoming the young man he’d always hoped he’d be.

The Case
Trenton was last seen in the early morning hours of February 22, 2026, in downtown Marquette, Michigan. He had been out with friends at a local bar during a period of heavy snowfall and temperatures around 20°F. Surveillance footage captured him around 3:00 a.m. walking east on a bike path, appearing disoriented. The last known footage of Trenton shows him walking onto the ice of Lake Superior from the north Founder’s Landing Pier around 3:35 a.m. before disappearing from view. His family, particularly his mother, has been a constant presence in the efforts to find him, describing him as a beloved son whose disappearance has mobilized hundreds of community members to help in the search. Despite extensive search efforts involving helicopters, sonar, and dive teams, he remains missing.

Since his disappearance, the Trenton Massey NMU Memorial Fund c/o (Sarah Brock or Greg Massey) has been set up to raise money for Scholarship, Safety upgrades, and for a Memorial. For more information, please contact NMU Foundation at (906) 227-2627 or foundtn@nmu.edu.
